Newsletter 17th Feb 2017

Friday 17th February 2017

Dear parent or carer,

This is the first newsletter to be sent to you in email form only as part of our money-saving project. Please remember that anyone requiring a paper copy can purchase one at the front office.

On a fundraising note the PTA have managed to raise almost £500 this week from their Valentines Disco and Clothing Collection. Many thanks to all those who supported these events – as the government budget cuts begin to be implemented we will be more dependent on additional fundraising than ever. Mrs Grey and her PTA team would be delighted to hear from you if you have any ideas for fundraising that we haven’t tried.

Many thanks to all the parents who have signed our petition against the funding cuts – the plan is to gather these from all the parents of Cheshire East schools and present them to the Education Minister Nick Gibb.

Our Spring term parent/pupil/teacher meetings will be taking place on Wednesday 8th March. Please look out for your appointment letter first week back. May I also draw your attention once again to the INSET day on Monday 6th March – school will be closed that day for staff training.

The first week back is Book Week and there is further information about that in Mrs Whitehead’s letter below.

Finally enjoy the week with your children – let’s hope that the sun shines for us all.

Kind regards

Nikki Lawton

When we come back after the half term, we are having a Book Week to celebrate World Book Day. On Monday 27th February Andy Tooze will be coming in to school where he will be running poetry workshops for different classes. On Thursday 2nd March it will be World Book Day and we would like the children to dress up as their favourite book character and be in the with a chance of winning a prize. We will also be having storyteller Elizabeth Morris joining us to run workshops with Reception, Year 1 and Year 2/3.

I look forward to seeing your outfits.

Many Thanks

Mrs Whitehead

What a busy week we have had in school. On Tuesday the football team took part in the Under 11s cup at Crewe Alex Soccer Centre, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the next round. Their effort was excellent and Mr Bilotta was very proud of them all.

Yesterday saw a group of Year 5 students visit Sir William Stanier to take part in their Crime Investigation afternoon – thank you to Mrs Jones for accompanying them. It seems that a great time was had by all.

We also had groups of year 4/5 pupils visiting The Oaks Academy to take part in Music activities – thank you to Mrs Worley for facilitating that.

Last night the school football team won the Futsall competition at Sir William Stanier and now progress through to the Crewe V Nantwich tournament – thank you to Mr Beesley and Mr Bilotta for arranging this and accompanying the children.

Today we have had 3 teachers from China in school, visiting classes and learning about teaching methods in primary schools. They were very impressed by our school and our amazing children!

On the reverse of this letter you have a topic web of the theme for learning in your child’s class this term – if you have any questions about this please don’t hesitate to contact your class teacher.
